Shortcut to Nirvana
Posted by Gail, January 28 2008During lunch last week with a colleague from my previous life in television, she remarked wistfully that what she's looking for these days is a shortcut to Nirvana. Aren't we all. Best I can tell, of course, it really doesn't work ...

Five Wishes
Posted by Gail, December 03 2007I've never thought of this weblog as a place to do book reviews, but I just read something wonderful that I want to pass along to anyone who's floundering around (as we all do from time to time) wondering what his or her purpose in life might be.

Walking the Woods
Posted by Gail, October 23 2007Nothing like staring into the trunk of a thousand-year-old tree to put the vicissitudes of your own life into perspective, as I discovered a couple of Sundays ago when I took my friend Kathy for a lengthy tromp through Muir Woods.

Bald and Beautiful
Posted by Gail, October 04 2007The first time I met my friend Martha she was bald as an egg. But, as I've since told her, she was the most beautiful bald woman I'd ever seen. By our second meeting, the gorgeous hair vanquished by chemotherapy had reappeared as a quarter-inch...

Happy Every Day
Posted by Gail, September 19 2007I haven't been in school for a loooong time, but rounding the bend from August into September always feels as if I'm beginning a fresh new year.

Growing Older, Growing Up
Posted by Gail, August 29 2007My son turned 21 a couple of days ago. I'm still not quite sure how that happened, since -- as I've been telling people for months -- I was burping him just a couple of weeks ago. How can he possibly be grown up already?

An Attitude of Gratitude
Posted by Gail, August 15 2007I am a firm believer in the power of gratitude and appreciation. I remember hearing years ago that it was impossible to be simultaneously grateful and unhappy, and after finding those words to be absolutely true I have tried to live by them ever since.

We're Married. Surprise!
Posted by Gail, August 01 2007Perhaps it shouldn't have come as such a shock. After all, when Win and Denny bought John's home in suburban Boston a year ago, we were told that the buyers were engaged.

Global Meditation
Posted by Gail, July 12 2007If you could make the world a significantly better place by giving an hour of your time, would you do it? Well, DUH, as my son might have scornfully said a few years back -- of course I would. So here's your chance.

Living in the Moment
Posted by Gail, July 02 2007Learning to live in the moment. Now there's a concept that can give you pause. It certainly sounds as if it's what we should be doing without having to think about it too much, right? But actually making it happen can take some effort.

Synchronicity
Posted by Gail, June 24 2007One of the things I love about trying to walk a spiritual path is the surprise and synchronicity that accompany the journey. The “everyday miracles” that make life so much fun.

Yoga and the Rock Star
Posted by Gail, June 04 2007There's a rock star in my yoga class. Really. You'd know the name immediately if I told you, which of course I won't, because one of the key tenets of a yoga practice is the respect it brings for your fellow practitioners. Suffice it to say that this w...

Toddlers as Teachers
Posted by Gail, May 04 2007If you want to learn a powerful lesson about living in the moment, find yourself a toddler to watch for a day. You'll probably fall over in a heap while they're still going strong, hours later, but I can pretty much guarantee it'll be the most fun you'...

Everyday Miracles
Posted by Gail, May 04 2007When I first made the leap of faith -- actually, more like a jump off a cliff, hoping that a mattress would lie below to break my fall -- of acknowledging that life on earth was far more mysterious and magical than I had ever imagined in my previous ye...
